HOME TRENCHING ROCK HAWG RADAR
Rock excavation in Quarry Haul Road construction

Gammonds are the first trenching contractor to run Rock Hawg machines in the U.K. and Ireland. We currently run two of these machines. A 55 tonne, 440 horsepower unit with a 2.9m wide cutting drum. Along with the latest, and first in Europe, 110 tonne, 660 horsepower unit with a 3.8m wide cutting drum.

The primary uses for these machines are as follows:

Construction sites: Where rock is present the site can be levelled with excavated material available to be used elsewhere on site without being put through a crusher. Therefore, eliminating the need to import new material at an additional cost.

Road Construction: Road grading and formation is possible in rock conditions. Type 1 material is produced directly in one pass with minimal disturbance to the surrounding rock structure.

Quarries: This is the new alternative to drilling and blasting. Rock can be excavated quickly, efficiently and in many cases more cost effective than blasting. Also, haul roads can be plained without fracturing the structure of the rock below.

Material excavated Ultra Wide Trench

We thoroughly believe that Rock Hawg is the way forward in these methods. With its cost saving potential and many environmental advantages it is becoming a very real alternative to drilling and blasting.
